Warm Heart of Africa

They call Malawi the Warm Heart of Africa. We cannot disagree with this as we have met some very lovely people that have been so gracious and kind to us.

Here are Lily and Blessing. They went with us one day and were gracious, kind hosts. Lily has been a widow for 15 years and has raised 3 girls. She has an amazing faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, which has helped her go through many trials. She has had a job as a pharmacy tech for 10 years now and only makes roughly $140 a month. But she so lovely opened up her home to us and served us tea and enjoyed our company.

Here is Bishop Francis. He has been so incredible with us and showed us so many different places, facilities and types of services. He is the one in all the other pictures that wears the really tall hat. And here he is playing balloons with us. We are so excited to continue on this journey and with our friendship with him.

Here is Gracious their grandchild. We have had the opportunity to play cards and games with him a lot. He is Mark’s age, so it is so fun getting to know him.

Here is Nery and Immanuel and Gracious. Nery was a wonderful host and went out of our way to make us comfortable. In Malawi they normally just give you the whole fish, they don’t debone it or take off anything. We didn’t tell her, but she figured out we didn’t like it and she made fish off the bone for us. It was a very wonderful treat for us. She also made us mashed potatoes and popcorn one day. She is very special and we are grateful for her and her family. Immanuel is their youngest son, he is pretty awesome too.

We have met so many kids on our journey that after a little bit of time, they just love to play with us. These kids loved getting their picture taken. The little boy in the back with his hands raised followed us around for a little while as we looked at the property. Then when we started playing we were surrounded instantly by 30 kids, then we passed out candy and sang songs and it went to around 50. Our hearts are forever changed by the children and the joy they had on their faces. These kids ran after us when we left. We pray they get to know the Lord and have a closer relationship with him. Many of these kids didn’t go to the church, they were just in the village next door. Our prayer is to reach all of Malawi to show them the heart of Christ.

Here are some pictures of the very rural areas. As with any place, there are nicer places and houses where we will stay and have stayed and then rural areas where the majority of the people live and try to make a living.
